five of the most prominent hills on Harris during your stay and enjoy some of the most spectacular views that Scotland has to offer. On a clear day it is possible to see over 50 miles from the summits to St Kilda, The mainland, the Cullins of Skye and even Rum. The
route descriptions given are brief and rely on walkers having an OS 1:50,000 or 1:25,000 map and compass or GPS for navigation. For a more detailed description of routes see Walking on Lewis & Harris, a cicerone guide by Richard Barrett (available at the Tarbert Tourist Information Centre). There
are few paths on the higher ground in Harris so most routes described are across rough, often rocky or boggy, ground. The Harris weather is notoriously changeable and walkers are advised to carry waterproofs and wear sturdy footwear.
